The eSports Nightly News Broadcast Episode 1

Today marks the first day of a brand new LIVE broadcast I’m doing on Twitch.tv! The eSports Nightly is a weekly show that recaps the previous week in eSports and give a preview for all the upcoming events and important news items. I’m hoping to stream every Sunday at 10PM EST / 9PM CST which will hopefully allow for viewers to send in shout outs and news items during the broadcast. Here is the link to the VOD on Twitch if you prefer their video player to YouTube’s.

If you have any feedback let me know! You can leave a comment here, on YouTube, and via Twitter or Facebook. And be sure to consider subscribing on YouTube, following Twitch.tv, and following on Twitter. Each and everyone helps tremendously. Thanks!!!

How to surf in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Over at my personal gaming channel perlox5, I published a CS:GO surfing tutorial that covers exactly what you think it would: surfing! It’s an addicting little mini-game that’s been with the Counter-Strike series for years and it’s a great way to waste hours of your life, jamming to Liquicity and smoothly gliding along the creative, and sometimes frustrating, worlds of surf. I highly recommend giving it a try.

In this particular video, I’m playing on surf_air_arena_v4, a very forgiving map that doesn’t put you in jail when you fall off the map. It also has boosters in various places to get you up to speed and plenty of ramps to land on. It also isn’t a “start-to-finish” design, so you can literally just fly around like crazy without finishing it. It’s a great map to practice on. You can download the map for yourself here, but remember to change your server variables to:

  • sv_airaccelerate 150 or sv_airaccelerate 999
  • sv_staminajumpcost 0
  • sv_staminalandcost 0

Have fun and be sure to subscribe!

Guild Wars 2 review, To Buy or Not to Buy! (Positives and Negatives)

Every now and then I publish content on my general gaming channel “perlox5”. This time around it’s for the most recent MMO to hit the markets: Guild Wars 2. My friends and I picked up copies and set out into the world of Tyria to explore and test out what ArenaNet could deliver. I am a long-time World of Warcraft player and fan, and have tested a variety of different paid, F2P, and beta MMO’s to find something to replace my longing for the next WoW. But so far nothing has come close. Is Guild Wars 2 the next big MMO? Does it live up to expectations? Is it the next WoW? All those answers and more within!

Update 7/31/2013: so we ended up playing the game for 40-50 hours before quitting, but eventually returned a second and third time. It’s an excellent game considering no paid subscription. You can get bored, take a break, and return without worrying about the monthly fee. We’ve leveled a couple characters, had fun times with the unique content, but miss some of the traditional MMO mechanics like distinct class roles and raiding content. As of now I’ve sunk over 125 hours into the game and consider the cost of picking up well covered. There’s also a fair number of players still playing and world events have a pretty good turnout.

Behind the Play #001, CS:GO basic strategy

I’m pleased to present the first episode of Behind The Play, a new series that focuses on basic strategy for a variety of competitive titles. I hope to release more of these for Quake Live, StarCraft 2, and League of Legends, and then eventually focus on higher level strategy. If I’m lucky I’ll even try and bring on some players and discuss specific matches and what was going on in their head.
